Bonar Bridge FC - Club History
Bonar Bridge FC was founded in 1968 and was a member of the North Caledonia League for over thirty years. From the start – and up to the present day – the club has played games and held training sessions at the Migdale Road Playing Fields Bonar Bridge, Sutherland. Sadly, in 2010, the club was disbanded.
In 2014, Bonar Bridge Youth FC was formed and has been providing training sessions to children from P1-7 & S1 – S6 for the last 10 years and continues to go from strength to strength.
In 2018, a new club constitution was created, and a committee was formed, all to develop facilities and opportunities for the football-going community of Bonar Bridge and the surrounding area. The club was renamed Bonar Bridge FC.
In 2019, Bonar Bridge FC was accepted back into the North Caledonian Football League, where the newly formed Bonar Bridge FC First Team competed yearly in the League and associated Cups.
Bonar Bridge FC began the current 2023/24 season with a newly formed Joint Management Structure of Bobby Breen, Robbie Breen and last season’s Manager and former first-team captain Tommy McClenaghan. The First Team look to push on from past seasons, maintaining in a similar squad to past seasons with some new additions.
Future Vision and Aims
The trustees are developing plans that look at both the club’s infrastructure, the development of the players and the club’s community involvement.
Since Reforming the Club in 2014, the community-based Club’s board vision remains to provide a pathway for local youngsters through the age groups up to the adult level. This has been successfully delivered to date through a dedicated Committee and board spending time and effort to best deliver the club’s original goal.
The club successfully completed a complete refurbishment of the Clubhouse in 2022 to ensure the facilities were now aesthetically pleasing but also fit for purpose in terms of health and safety for all age groups involved with the club. The Clubhouse is highly regarded by other clubs as an excellent Asset and is often applauded for its facilities.
The Club contains its goal of obtaining ownership of the pitch to grow on the currently owned clubhouse and car Park through the Highland Council to allow further pitch and training pitch improvements to be undertaken to make the Field more sustainable for use during the winter playing months. The Car Park recently received a makeover with Surfacing, New Street Lights and Drainage installed to protect the health and safety of users in the short winter days. The Club hope to expand these improvements onto the pitch when lease ownership is obtained.
The Club continues to look to expand its ever-growing Youth development, including both Junior and Senior Youth teams, including Youth players from all parts of the highlands stretching to Kinlochbervie and Ullapool. The Club hopes to enter a youth team into the junior leagues in the coming years on top of the current youth tournaments held in the summer months.
The support received from local businesses & companies has helped make the success of the club possible to date, and its ongoing support is appreciated by all involved to continue these improvements each year.
