Week 26 of the Macleod & Maccallum North Caledonian Season seen us travel North to Helmsdale to take on Bunillidh Thistle FC in the second meeting between the sides this season. We knew going into the game it would be a different game to that in September with a number of new players in the Bunillidh squad.
The game started in the best possible way for Bonar with a Corner whipped in by Richie Brittian found Jack Corbett at the back post to put the away side in lead inside 4 minutes. The home side came into the game shortly after picking up the loose balls and putting pressure on the Bonar defense. The game continued to be a physical affair between the sides. Bunillidh levelled the scoreline on the 26th minute after a high ball into the box found an unmarked Billy Cairns at the back post who headed home.
The first half finished with both sides trying to take the lead but it finished all square going into the break.
The second half started and the intensity in the game had risen. Bonar took the lead after a good freekick from Archie Ryder on the 57th minute was followed up by Jack Corbett to slot in the ball into the net and restore the Bonar Bridge lead. 1-2. It was Bonar on top now trying to increase their lead to secure the points. Both sides recieved yellow cards for challenges throughout the game. Rahim Mohammad got Bonar’s third goal through good work down the right hand side from Shaun Marshall before the ball was crossed in and fired home giving Cameron Yuille in the Bunillidh Goal no chance.
Bunillidh found themselves down to 10 men shortly after Ali Macrae recieved a second yellow for a poor challenge. Bonar did well to hold onto the game and not let Bunillidh a chance to get back into the game. The game finished with Bunillidh recieving a second red card when CJ Farrell was sent off for a bad challenge. Rahim got his second goal of the game on the 88th minute firing home a brilliant freekick to seal the win for the away side.
