Week 27 of the North Caledonian Season seen us make the trip north away from home against Halkirk United FC in the league action in the first of two encounters between the two clubs in the next month.

A changed Bonar starting line up again, but with some first team regulars missing the squad played well throughout against a side challenging for the league title.

The game started with Halkirk having the majority of possession, but Bonar defended well and managed to link up through the midfield to create chances in the final third. Both teams were working hard to look for the opening goal in the game with several corners for both, but unfortunately for the away side the first goal came in the 39th minute for Halkirk after the Bonar Defense was slow to react before a deep cross from Luke Manson found Grant Aitkenhead at the back post. 1-0.

The first half finished with a solid defensive performance from Bonar who kept Halkirk from getting a 2nd before the break.

The second half started and the work rate from the Bonar squad remained the same. Halkirk put pressure on the Bonar defense but it held strong to keep the away team in the game. Bonar tried to find a way back into the game through Aiden Stainke and Shadi Ali playing out wide, and the introduction of Dean Fraser gave energy into the front line, but the home sides defense contained the pressure to retain their lead.

After some substitutions through injury for the away team, Bonar put players forward looking to get the equalizer. Halkirk got a slice of luck just before 90 minute mark when an attempted clearance fell to Ethan Kevill in the box to give Halkirk a 2-0 advantage and seal the game. The game finished with a 2nd for Ethan Kevill finishing well in the bottom corner giving Bonar Goalkeeper, Brandon Smith, no chance.

The final score was 3-0 to Halkirk which was harsh on the Bonar side as the game was closer then the score line shows. Halkirk played well and deserved winners in the end showing the quality in the side, but the Bonar side gave 100% throughout creating chances and defending well. Well done to Halkirk United and thanks for the brilliant Hospitality after the game. All the best for the remainder of the season.

Man of the Match for Bonar was David Macgruer. A brilliant defensive performance staying calm and blocking a number of Halkirk’s attack throughout.
